Our hydropower system is the backbone of affordable energy in the Northwest. However, efforts to remove dams or significantly reduce their output threaten to raise costs. Studies have shown that removing just the 4 lower Snake River dams could result in energy costs rising by up to 25% or more. We believe this is not the right path forward for our region.

The Northwest is the leader in renewable energy and is pursuing a carbon-free energy future in the coming decades. Today, the affordable and reliable carbon free energy from hydropower dams produces more than 80% of the region’s renewable electricity and are an essential tool in fighting climate change.

Salmon are important to our environment and culture, especially to Pacific Northwest Native American tribes. Today, average adult salmon and steelhead returns have tripled since the first federal dam on the Columbia River went into operation in 1938.
